Materials and methods

2,269 MP3 audio recordings (537.4 MB, 37:10:35) of 253 arthropod species were downloaded from the Borror Laboratory of Bioacoustics online database. Next, random MP3 audio recordings were sampled without replacement and exported to one hour sequences (N = 37) with a computer program written by JLIAT in Visual Basic 6.0. Subsequently, all 37 unedited audio sequences were multi-tracked, non-repetetively effected with random panning modulation, effected with fade in and fade out, normalized to 0 decibels, and exported with Audacity 2.0.5 multi-track audio editing software.
